The Steps to ‘Perfect’ Teeth
The term “perfect” can be subjective. There can be imperfections, but
the goal is to have a healthy smile that allows you to walk with confidence.
Keeping up with oral health and researching different cosmetics can go a long way
to maintaining that healthy smile for years to come, and here are a few things
to try for perfecting the process.
Technique
Brush your teeth at least twice a day and
focus on preventing cavities while keeping gum disease at bay. The type of
toothbrush you have, the amount of force you use, and the brand of your toothpaste
can affect the overall health and look of your teeth. Soft-bristled
toothbrushes are often your best choice since they can sweep away particles and
debris without irritating or scratching the gums. They also help protect your teeth’s
enamel while making it easier to get between teeth and gums.
Hard bristled brushes, on the other hand, can
be rough on teeth and cause the gums to recede, so brush lightly to avoid
harming your teeth and gums. Hold the brush at 45-degree angle and make sure
you reach the front, back, and top of your teeth, using a toothpaste that
contains fluoride.
Straighten
Teeth
Proper technique is only half of the battle. If you have crooked teeth
or an over- or underbite, consider having your teeth straightened. Braces are often
associated with teenagers or kids, but you're never too old for orthodontic
treatment. Correcting an overbite or an underbite can make speaking and chewing
easier, and braces or aligners can do wonders for your smile. Removing gaps
between the teeth can reduce your chance of tooth decay, and food is less
likely to get trapped between teeth.
Lightening/Whitening
When many think of a perfect smile, they usually think of white teeth,
and most people believe that whitening their teeth is the best way to improve
their smile, as per an AACD survey. If your teeth aren’t as bright as you’d
like, there are a few solutions to choose from. There are at-home whitening
products along with in-office treatment, which can provide dramatic results.
Additionally, you can use a whitening toothpaste and avoid foods that are known
to stain teeth, such as coffee, chocolate, and red wine.
Regular
Check Ups
If you're serious about improving your smile and oral health, regular
checkups with your dentist are important since he or she can update you on any
progress you’ve made. The dentist can also ensure that you’re brushing and
flossing adequately and offer tips and advice to make sure your smile remains
at its best.
