Some Healthy Breakfast Foods for the Morning
In the morning, a bowl of cereal may seem like the quickest and most
convenient option, especially for kids or adults in a hurry. However, there are
better options that not only avoid high sugar (which many cereals have) but
also offer an easy chance to slip a solid dose of vitamins, minerals, and other
nutrients into your morning to kickstart your day. So, you may want to consider
the following breakfast foods for your morning pick-me-up instead of that box
of cereal sitting on top of your fridge (unless it’s whole grain cereal).
Eggs
Egg are rich in protein and serve as a great complement to most foods.
There are also several different ways to cook them to keep your palette happy
and versatile. If you're short on time, boiled eggs are great on the go, and
omelets containing some of your favorite veggies like spinach and tomatoes are
always delicious and healthy. Even scrambled eggs with just meat and cheese can
be filling without the sugar overload.
Fruit
For some, sweeter foods are a must-have first thing in the morning.
Before ordering a dozen donuts or French toast drowned in syrup, opt for fruit
instead. Fruits like strawberries are great for the teeth and can help brighten
your smile with its less acidic content than other fruits like oranges. You can
also pack a bowl of fruit in Tupperware and eat it anywhere you want.
Granola
There are some granola bars loaded with sugar, but there are others
with healthy alternatives too. For a healthy breakfast snack, look for granola
with high nutritional value. You can even make your own using oatmeal, peanut
butter, honey or agave, and almonds. There are a few combinations you can try
to keep variety in your diet. This is ideal and delicious for a busy morning
(or any morning).
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is another versatile food that’s great for any breakfast. As a
hot cereal, it can be eaten with a nice puree accompanied with milk for a quick
and easy dish. You can even turn it into a savory meal by adding your favorite
diced vegetables while using salt and pepper instead of sugar for flavor. For
extra convenience, you can bake oatmeal into squares and take them with you on
the road.
Smoothies
Some people prefer to skip breakfast altogether to avoid a heavy
stomach. However, an empty stomach may be the worse way to start your day. To
keep things light, try mixing a few breakfast smoothies. Just blend frozen
fruit with milk or juice and a bit of yogurt—the dairy content strengthens your
bones and teeth. A simple fruit smoothie can leave you energized and certainly hold
you over until lunch if that’s when you prefer to eat.
Yogurt
Yogurt can be used as a topping, a sweetener, or the main course.
Greek yogurt is especially great for smoothies and can serve as a natural
sweetener as well. A fruit and yogurt parfait serves as a nice breakfast treat
too. As a topping, you can add some granola for texture or oatmeal to make it a
little more chewy.
Each of these foods are healthy alternatives that are light on sugar.
There are plenty of different combinations you can make with each one that will
give you the energy boost you need for a productive morning. They’re all rich
in protein and other nutrients that are essential not only for overall health
but for a healthy smile as well.
