Don't Let Your Schedule Get in the Way of Your Oral Hygiene

Oral Hygiene

Today, many busy professionals forget to eat their lunch, let alone making time to work out and take care of their oral hygiene. People are working longer hours and spend far less time at home, but that is no reason to neglect your oral hygiene. Even lapsing for just a short period can result in some serious dental bills.

Keep a Space at Work – nothing is a better reminder than a visual one. Dedicate one of the drawers in your desk, or at least a visible portion of it, to your oral hygiene tools. A small tube of toothpaste, a brush, some floss, and some mouthwash will do the trick. Now, every time you pull that drawer open you are reminded that you need to brush your teeth. When you get up to go the restroom, take them with you.

Travel Set – one of the best ways to never forget your oral hygiene tools is to create a small kit that has everything you need and leave it in your travel bag. You will never forget to pack it again because everything you need will always be in your suitcase!

Keep Regular Dental Appointments – for most of us, our dentists operate on a 9-5 schedule, which means you would have to miss work in order to make your dental appointment. If missing work is not an option, find a dentist that offers evening or weekend appointments. You will be surprised at the number of dentists that now have at least one evening available as well as Saturday hours.

Multitask – if you are truly stretched for time, don’t be afraid to brush your teeth while taking a shower. You know that five minutes you spend letting that hot water hit your neck and back to loosen you up? Well, it can also be the time when you brush your teeth.

Traveling Floss – keeping a small container of floss with you is a great way to make sure you take care of your teeth, especially if you tend to eat out a lot. When you get up to go to the bathroom after your meal, take a minute to floss, then rinse with water.

Chewing Gum – if you are not comfortable with flossing in public, keeping sugar-free chewing gum at the ready is a viable alternative. The gum not only helps remove food particles, but also serves to keep the saliva flowing in your mouth to ensure acids do not build up and erode the enamel on your teeth.
