Top 3 Reasons Why People Dislike the Dentist

All of us, at one point or another in our lives, have experienced some discomfort or apprehension when it comes to going to see the dentist. For some people, this dislike of the dentist goes so far that they would rather live with a toothache or pain than visit their local office. While not everyone feels that strongly about their discomfort or dislike, there are plenty of people who would easily say, “I hate going to the dentist!” But why? Here are the top reasons we hate going to the dentist.

Potential Pain

One of the worst parts about going to the dentist for some is anticipating the potential pain they may have to endure – needing a filling, having a tooth pulled, needed a crown put in – the list goes on and on. While there are many forms of anesthesia dentists can use to numb patients during particularly painful procedures, it can sometimes not be enough to quell a patient’s anxiety. Luckily for them, sedation dentistry is also available where the patient is put completely to sleep while the dentist does the work. Make sure to do your research to make sure sedation dentistry is right for you.

Fear of Needles

Needles are a scary thing and there are very few people you will find in this world that say they enjoy them. As if needles in the arms for vaccines and drawing blood aren’t bad enough, needles in the mouth can send someone over the edge. Because so many people have a fear of needles that keeps them from seeking proper dental care, non-invasive procedures have been developed to help lessen these patients’ anxieties. If you are still nervous about needles, make sure to talk to your dentist about alternate procedures that will help relax your fears and give your mouth proper dental care.

Anxiety Issues

More people than we might think deal with some type of anxiety issue and one form of this is anxiety or fear before any medical appointments. The hard truth is that no one truly knows what the dentist will find during the appointment and the unknown is always a very scary thing. A great way to get past these anxiety problems is to have a sit-down meeting with your dentist that does not include any procedures, discuss what needs to be done, and schedule a follow-up appointment to complete the work.

Another reason people avoid the dentist is because of the cost. Now, however, you can lessen the financial blow by signing up for the Wellness Dental Plan. For more information and to find out how you can save as much as 20 percent on your bill, click here.
