Should I Replace a Missing Tooth

If you just lost a tooth or have had one missing for some time, you have at some point or probably are thinking about replacing it. Other than the actual physical appearance of the missing tooth, regardless of its location in your mouth, there are quite a few reasons why you should consider replacing that missing tooth.

Mental

The mental aspect of not having a tooth, and we are not just talking about you, is something that cannot be dismissed. There is a stigma attached to people that have a missing tooth. After all, you never see a brain surgeon or presidential figure portrayed with a missing tooth. However, what you do see are unintelligent or poor people portrayed in that manner. That portrayal, whether we like it or not, filters down into society.

With so many people forming an opinion of someone within the first few minutes of their interaction, one of those factors in that first impression will be how you look, be it fair or not. Something like this can impact a job or a budding relationship. Ultimately, this could take a toll on your mental well-being.

Physical

Physically, there are several concerns that would point to getting a missing tooth replaced. Your teeth will naturally shift over time. But, with a missing tooth, that shifting can become exaggerated. This condition, which is called malocclusion, can create significant problems, such as a crossbite or overbite.

In addition, depending upon the location of the tooth, it could give you problems when you are chewing your food. The trickledown effect of that can impact your digestive system, meaning you could develop a condition like acid reflux. Tooth decay and bone loss are also a possibility with a missing tooth.

Get Your Smile Back

With the advances in dentistry, having a tooth replaced is not nearly the ordeal it was when our parents went to the dentist at our age for a missing tooth. Not only are procedures like crowns, bridges, and implants far easier, they are also far less expensive than they were years ago.

Best of all, after the procedure is done, you will have that big, beautiful smile back again. More than likely, you will notice an instant boost in self-confidence as well as people looking at you in a different light. And isn’t that worth it?
