Minimizing Buck Teeth Without Braces
Malocclusion, also known as buck teeth,
can make people feel self-conscious, but this condition is nothing to be
ashamed of. When front teeth protrude or are misaligned, people may habitually
try to cover up their smile, and for more serious cases, they may just avoid
smiling altogether. Malocclusion is often fixed with braces, but not everyone
has that option. However, there are a few things you can do to grow comfortable
with your smile including practicing good hygiene, directing attention to other
features, and exuding confidence about your appearance.
Practice Proper Oral Hygiene
Poor oral hygiene can allow teeth to
become yellowed, decayed, and damaged, but when you keep up oral health, you
can deter unwanted attention. Brush your teeth twice daily with a whitening
toothpaste to keep teeth bright. To keep your teeth’s enamel strong, use a
fluoride mouthwash after brushing. Following a daily routine can help you gain
a healthier, brighter smile. The healthier your teeth are, the more confident
you can become regarding your smile.
Direct Attention
If you continue to struggle with your
smile due to your teeth, direct attention to other features you are more
confident in. If it’s your hair, make sure it’s styled and neat. If it’s your
eyes, highlight the color and shape with some make-up. Directing attention to
those features can boost your confidence. Overtime, you can grow to appreciate your
other features, and it will help you avoid stressing over your grin.
Smile Confidently
It’s possible at times that by trying to
hide your smile, you could be drawing more attention towards it. Constantly
covering your mouth with your hand or not smiling can be obvious and let those
around you know you’re uncomfortable. The best solution may be to simply
embrace your smile. When you seem unbothered by your teeth, it can become
infectious. This sends a message of confidence that others will quickly pick up
on.
As a child, prolonged thumb sucking,
pacifier use, and bottle feeding can make malocclusion more of an issue. There
isn’t anything you can do to cause malocclusion, but you could make it worse by
doing such things. Very few people have perfect alignment, and most minor cases
require treatment. Although, if you are considering treatment, keep the expense
of getting them fixed in mind.
Some dental health professionals will
recommend braces, removing teeth, reshaping teeth, or surgery. It’s important
to treat problems early on. While there isn’t an age limit on treatment,
treatment in adults may take more time. The amount of time often depends on how
much correction is needed.
