Is Your Mouth Ready for Valentine’s Day?
Have a Healthy, Kissable Mouth for the Holiday of Love
Valentine’s Day is a holiday that is all about love, which is why it isn’t surprising that so many kisses are exchanged on this special day. Whether we are giving our boyfriend or girlfriend, husband or wife, son or daughter, or best friend a kiss on Valentine’s Day, no one wants to kiss from a mouth that doesn’t practice good oral hygiene. Those who do not have a good oral hygiene routine often have bad breath and a smile that is far from attractive and good looking, something you want when kissing someone. Here are some ways to get your mouth ready for the holiday and keep it protected from holiday sweets.
Have a Good Oral Hygiene Routine
An important part of having a kissable mouth is to make sure you are keeping it clean and healthy, and this should be an all year round routine not just during the month of February. A good oral hygiene routine includes brushing teeth at least twice a day and flossing every day (or at least fairly regularly). Doing this helps to remove food particles and sugars from the tooth’s surface, which is important in preventing the erosion of the tooth’s enamel as well as preventing decay and cavities. When sugars mix with bacteria found in the mouth, it creates acid, which wears the tooth away and causes cavities.
Eat the Right Diet
Just as it is important to make sure to keep teeth clean, it is also important to make sure you are eating and drinking the right things to keep teeth healthy from within. By reducing the amount of acid and sugar in your diet, it is possible to help further prevent decay and cavities from occurring. Additionally, by adding a balanced diet of complex carbohydrates, lean protein, fresh fruits, vegetables, healthy nuts, and fiber, it is possible to reinforce the health and strength of the teeth from within. This means avoiding consuming too much of that Valentine’s Day candy – remember, everything in moderation.
Drink Enough Water
Since it isn’t always possible to brush your teeth after every meal or snack, it is important to substitute that action with drinking enough water. Having a glass of water after a meal is a great way to rinse away food particles and sugar that could sit on the teeth and cause erosion and decay. Additionally, having enough water is a great way to prevent dry mouth which is one of the leading causes of bad breath, known in the dental industry as halitosis, which helps to make your mouth perfectly kissable!
