Get Your Health Back on Track After Holiday Binging
How You Can Detox After the Holiday
The holiday season – namely Thanksgiving through Christmas – is a great time for people to get together with family and friends, enjoy food and some drinks, and have a good laugh together. However, once the holiday season has come and gone, it can leave many of us feeling sluggish and bloated, especially if we indulged too much. This is why New Year’s Resolutions surrounding healthy eating and weight loss are so popular and why more people seem to hit the gym in January and February than any other month.
Whether healthy habits are part of your New Year’s Resolution or not, we can all agree that getting back on track after the holiday binge can be a challenge. Luckily, there is a lot of information out there about how to detox the body and get back to healthier habits – and here are three of them.
Start Cooking at Home
While you may have spent much of the last few months eating out and ordering in, now is the time to get back into the routine of cooking at home. If you and your family are tired of having spaghetti and meatballs every week, why not make it fun and try some new recipes? When grocery shopping, it is also important to focus on whole foods instead of processed foods – any easy way to do this is to focus your shopping on the outer perimeters of the store that include fresh produce, meats, and dairy.
Consider Doing an Alcohol Detox
I am sure we have all heard the notion that drinking alcohol is simply empty calories. While this may not be too far from the truth, we all have the right to indulge in a cocktail with family and friends. For those who may have overindulged during the holidays, consider doing a one month alcohol detox – for 30 days, abstain from drinking any alcoholic beverages including wine and beer. This will not only help to give the liver a rest but will also help you consume fewer calories and maybe drop some lbs.
Make Nutrition Easy with Smoothies
Many of us find it hard to get the recommended number of fruits and vegetables worked into our everyday diet, but there is a great trick to help make this a little easier to accomplish – smoothies! There are a ton of resources out there to help choose the right smoothie as well as all different recipes that help combine fruits and vegetables to reach your recommended servings. Smoothies make a great breakfast that is fast and easy and can even be used as a meal replacement for lunch.
